An eagle is a score of two strokes under par on a hole. For example, scoring 3 on a par-5 hole or 2 on a par-4 hole.
Eagles most commonly occur on par-5 holes when a golfer reaches the green in two shots and sinks the putt. A score of three under par on a single hole is called an albatross (or double eagle).
